About SpectaculArts
We at SpectaculArts want to change the narrative for under-represented communities in Bedford by nurturing positive, open dialogue.
By putting the arts at the centre of promoting community cohesion through exciting events, educational multimedia, community action and networking, we can bring about the change we want to see. Combining our talents with those of businesses and organisations, we are bringing about opportunities for real change.
Our Mission and Vision
Mission:
“Building a better Bedford, Brick by Brick”
- We are an organisation that Engages, Challenges and Inspires the communities in Bedford to come together and celebrate through Dance, Art, Performance, Music and Education.
- We strive to enrich lives, provide key life skills to all age groups and strengthen community cohesion.
- We will always value people who believe in a better Bedford – we will provide aspiration to those who think BIG and dream BIG!
Vision:
Our vision is to promote and create events throughout the year to enrich, enhance and celebrate Bedford’s diversity culminating into a bi-annual Street Arts Festival that celebrates all cultures, backgrounds and social groups from Bedford.
Long-term we envisage working towards acquiring an inspiring community hub/building that allows us to think beyond limitations.
Bedford has a rich and diverse population. SpectulaArts wants to harness this and create events to enrich, enhance and celebrate this diversity.
Almost 30% of Bedford’s population is from a non-white British background. These are well established communities with vibrant cultural traditions and celebrations of their own. SpectaculArts wants to bring these communities together to produce an event which celebrates the distinctiveness of these groups. It will educate and inform through involving many people from Bedford’s varied population in a fantastic, colourful, and dynamic event.
SpectaculArts aims to:
- Showcase the diversity and talents in Bedford through music, dance and performance.
- Promote an increased understanding of the cultural traditions of the various communities.
- ‘Shine a Light’ on the great activities already being undertaken by individuals and groups within Bedford and to help promote new ideas.
- Bring together people from the many different cultures and communities in Bedford by involving them in creating a joyful event in September 2019 and thereafter bi-annually.
- Deliver an event that lays the foundations for similar performances that will promote local cohesion and friendship in years to come.
- Raise money for our charity partner DKMS and to encourage greater knowledge of stem cell donation.
- Support and promote workshops for our youth working alongside teachers, volunteers and the business community.
- Elevate Bedford’s profile on the national stage.
